Kha'Zix, the Voidreaver, Revealed!

Posted on at 3:04 PM by Moobeat
The reveal of our next champion, Kha'Zix, is out!
Continue reading to read to enjoy a preview of his model, abilities,a bit of insight into how he is going to function, and the low down on his new "Evolution point" system.

First off, here is a quick look at his kit, since I know most of you are just itching to see it:
  • Unseen Threat (Passive): When Kha'Zix is not visible to the enemy team, he gains Unseen Threat, causing his next basic attack against an enemy champion to deal bonus magic damage and slow.
  • Taste Their Fear (Q): Deal physical damage to a single target. Damage against isolated targets is significantly increased. Kha'Zix passively marks enemies that are isolated from nearby allies.
    • Evolving claws increases damage to isolated targets even further. Kha'Zix also gains increased range on both Taste Their Fear and his basic attack.
  • Void Spike (W): Kha'Zix fires spikes that explode on contact, dealing physical damage to all nearby enemies. Kha'Zix is healed if he is within the explosion radius.
    • Evolving spike racks causes Void Spike to fire three projectiles in a cone. Spikes will also apply Unseen Threat to all enemies caught within the area of effect.
  • Leap (E): Kha'Zix leaps to an area, dealing physical damage to enemies in the area he lands.
    • Evolving wings increases Leap's range dramatically and causes a kill or assists to refresh the cooldown of Leap.
  • Void Assault (R): Each rank of Void Assault allows Kha'Zix to evolve one of his active abilities, granting it an additional effect. Upon activation, Kha'Zix enters stealth and gains Unseen Threat, increasing Movement Speed. Kha’zix can cast Void Assault again for a short time after activation.
    • Evolving active camouflage allows Kha’Zix to cast Void Assault three times over the course of its duration and reduces any damage he sustains while in stealth.

Here is the reveal in its entirety, including the mention of his common role as a "natural jungler" and details about his strange new "evolution point" system.
"Kha’Zix, the Voidreaver, will be devouring prey on the Fields of Justice in the upcoming patch. A flexible jungle assassin, Kha’Zix excels at surprising enemy champions and quickly dealing massive burst damage. Moreover, his unique evolution gameplay allows him to adapt to different enemy team comps and strategies by customizing his abilities over the course of the match. Here’s a full rundown of his abilities:

  • Unseen Threat (Passive): When Kha'Zix is not visible to the enemy team, he gains Unseen Threat, causing his next basic attack against an enemy champion to deal bonus magic damage and slow.
  • Taste Their Fear: Deal physical damage to a single target. Damage against isolated targets is significantly increased. Kha'Zix passively marks enemies that are isolated from nearby allies.
    • Evolving claws increases damage to isolated targets even further. Kha'Zix also gains increased range on both Taste Their Fear and his basic attack.
  • Void Spike: Kha'Zix fires spikes that explode on contact, dealing physical damage to all nearby enemies. Kha'Zix is healed if he is within the explosion radius.
    • Evolving spike racks causes Void Spike to fire three projectiles in a cone. Spikes will also apply Unseen Threat to all enemies caught within the area of effect.
  • Leap: Kha'Zix leaps to an area, dealing physical damage to enemies in the area he lands.
    • Evolving wings increases Leap's range dramatically and causes a kill or assists to refresh the cooldown of Leap.
  • Void Assault: Each rank of Void Assault allows Kha'Zix to evolve one of his active abilities, granting it an additional effect.

The bonus effects that Kha’Zix accrues for ambushing a target make him a natural jungler. His core initiation skill, Leap, allows him to stage ganks from unexpected angles, even over long distances or across terrain. If his quarry happens to be a lone champion, Kha’Zix can utilize the bonus damage from Taste Their Fear combined with the initial magic damage from Unseen Threat to truly devastating effect. Remember that the area of effect damage from Void Spike can help clear away any lingering minions to isolate a foe, making them vulnerable to some additional punishment.

Once he’s initiated, clever repositioning can allow Kha’Zix to break line of sight and refresh Unseen Threat. Juking into the brush, using Leap to withdraw and reinitiate, or entering stealth by casting Void Assault will allow the Voidreaver to continually slow enemies and lay down bonus damage from his passive. Cunning use of Unseen Threat is key to maximizing Kha’Zix’s damage potential.

Later in the match, Void Assault allows Kha’Zix to safely and aggressively navigate team fights. After leaping into combat, Kha’Zix can use his ultimate to evade attacks while he picks apart vulnerable members of the enemy team. Once he’s downed an opponent, activating Void Assault again can allow him to either safely withdraw or reinitiate on another target with Unseen Threat.

Each of Kha’Zix's active abilities can also be evolved to provide greater utility. At Levels 6, 11, and 16, he’ll gain an Evolution Point that can be spent to unlock additional effects on a specific skill. If you’d like greater hit and run potential, for example, choosing to evolve Void Assault and Leap can drastically increase your mobility by offering additional stealth and a second Leap after scoring a kill or assist. If you find yourself falling behind, combining Void Assualt with Void Spike can give you increased durability in team fights and greater farming and poke potential while you catch up on gold. Tailoring your evolutions to address the challenges of a specific match-up can give you that extra edge you need to finish strong in a close matchup."

  5. I like the sound of him. but another stealth based jungler? I wish riot would mix up the type of champions we get. the past 3 or 4 champs we've had (excluding syndra) have all been heavy junglers

    1. obviously not. but you get the gist? we haven't had much variety in recent champion releases

      Delete
    2. We've had 2 recent junglers (including Kha), 2 AP casters, 1 AD carry, and 1 bruiser. We have one other jungler in the entire game other than Eve who also has stealth, and Kha/Rengar are similar because their lore is tied.

    3. agreed overall he looks like a tweaked rengar. like leona and diana have similar kits. though he looks stronger then regar.

    4. they didnt have enough stealth in the game. so people complained. they added stealth to the game. people complain...

    5. How the fuck are Diana and Leona's kit the same?

      Delete
    6. ^
      Well
They both have a shield that gives them armor and damage.
Both have a dash to enemies. Although Leonas dash only occurs when she lands the skill shot
They both have a skill shot of some kind
Both a AOE that stops/slows the target from getting away..
Also they both apply a debuff on the enemy when they use an ability. Leonas deal extra damage while Dianas refreshes her ult.
If you really think about their kits are very similar in a way..

      Delete
    7. ^ Their debuff only applies when they are proc'd..

    2. Btw, how do you pronounce his name? I've tried saying it. Is it close to cha(as in charr), or something like khan. Im curious about this guys voice.

      Delete
    3. Kuh Zix I believe.

      Delete
    4. It is also highly unlikely (due to the fact that he can activate his ult MULTIPLE times in a row) that his stealth will be anything similar to Rengar's. I imagine it more like Vayne/Shaco's stealth. Allowing better mobility in team fights to hit stragglers.

      Delete
    5. I thought it was pronounced more like Caw-Zix

    4. Looks more like Zerg to me...The claw design looks strikingly like Hydras and the wings look like Speedling wings.

The head looks a lot like a Tyranid...but I can't place it, and the way he stands reminds me a lot of Warriors.

      Delete
    5. You do realize that everything from Starcraft came from Warhammer 40k, Tyranids were the inspiration for the Zerg, so it's a Tyranids based design, not Starcraft(Zerg)

      Delete
    6. zergling evolving wings usefull for leaping are a starcraft original concept. Besides now the design of the zerg is different from the tyranids. Since sc2, the zerg are more insectoid, tyranids(5th edition) are a locust swarm of xenomorphs. Swarm/great devourer sums up the directions in which they have been taken.

    2. Nerub can stun multiple enemies, burn down mana, has a parry and a backstab ulti

In term of team fights nerub can pin down enemies better than kha'six

      bitch please.

  18. Just seeing the abillities, it looks like the big difference between the two is that Rengar is more about targeting the carry, but using his natural tankyness and W to be able to stay in the fight and just kill the whole team. Kha'Zix seems like he is more akin to old school twitch, just follow one very vulnerable target and completly destroy them and then leave or else you die. Who knows, we may see him change a tad.

    3. I'm just theorizing, like how Syndra's orbs are a different color depending on team

    4. It's probably how he looks with his Q active before using the auto attack. If I had to guess.

      Delete
  22. What I want to know is if his abilities will be mana-based, or cooldown based?

    ReplyDelete
  23. This guy sounds like a lot of fun. His only CC seems tricky to pull off, but his entire kit is really flexible and he seems to have great escape abilities. He is truly Rengar's rival.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Can someone explain how his passive works? As soon as you come out of a bush or Fog of War, the enemy will be able to see you, thus negating your passive? Or once you're unseen.. you have the passive for X amount of time? I don't understand how that is going to work.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think it will be you go into a bush and you gain the passive till you use it then you need to go into the bush again to regain it.

      Delete
    2. I'm guessing that once the enemy team loses vision of you for X amount of time you gain the passive buff, which is then used up after you attack someone. It is kinda confusing though :S

      Delete
    3. When unseen (probably *the moment* you become unseen, due to way they talked about using brush and his ult), you gain a passive which causes your next autoattack against a champion to be improved. I'd assume this passive lasts until you proc it -- otherwise a time limit would be mentioned.

So every time you go out of vision you get an improved attack, regardless of whether you come back into vision before using it.

      Delete
  25. no varieties of champs these days.. kha zix is so similar to rengar...

    2. It's cute how everyone assumes he's exactly like Rengar when we don't even know any ability numbers or more than a tooltip summary to wager any guesses. Highly doubt his ulti stealth is even remotely close to Rengar's, prolly more like Shaco's minus blink.

      Delete
    3. His ult doesn't give the sight advantage of Rengar's ult and seems to be more of an escape tool than Rengar's which is for hunting.

Rengar's seems to be heavily used for finding players and ambushing them. Zix's would so far seem to be more for getting around a team fight and escaping sticky situations.

      Delete
    4. a 1 second stealth if I might add. which then if evolved becomes a 1 second stealth which you can use 3 times in a row for the benefit of 3 seconds stealth.. idk why ppl are crying.

      Delete
  28. I don't like that he have 4 "evolutions" and he can get 3 of them at 16lvl.
Whats the point of "evolving to adapt to smthg" if you get almost everything?
And Kha'Zix have no defensive evolution.
    I'm kinda disappointed.

  37. God, after reading this comments, I understand why the lol community is so stupid."OMG RENGAR 2.0, LOL FAIL RIOT", nobody even bothers to conect the dots. If you did, you would see the conection between kha zix and rengar, you would see that they are both predators, you would see how riot did this with a purpose, and you would learn to think for a second before speaking your mind.

    2. Give this man a medal. Kha’Zix is a squishy assassin champ like Talon. His claim to fame will be his leap letting him jump all over the place. He doesn't have any CC beside a slow on his passive. Wether he uses energy or mana will affect his gameplay the most I think. His ult being able to used twice or thrice is quick succession is the major draw here as well. Rengar is a Tanky Dps whose ult that *reveals* stealth so they can't hide and the stealth on his ult is a nice benefit. Their gameplay dovetails each other but they don't overlap. In ult vs ult Kha'zix may come out a little ahead of rengar being able to reuse it multiple time during the duration. Get Oracles and qq less.

I do hope he's not too OP on release though, Riot did a really good job with Rengar in making him balanced on release, with these skills it's going to be tricky to figure out how to counter him. Other than just Darius+Oracles.

Ah well, better start farming the IP!

  59. Rengar will stand no chance against this guy!!!! All of his abilities scale on AD and he has a leap on his E...So unfair now...

    ReplyDelete
  60. this guy doesn't have anything to do with rengar. it's quite ridiculous reading these comments. yea, the ulti is similar. look at nasus/renekton. it makes sense because of the lore. moreover, 2 smiliar skills with 2 completely different kits are a huge difference.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's very similar to rengar,
The invisible + movement speed buff ulti,
      The leap
The burst damage on single target
      The AOE that selfheals

i think it was probably intentional, considering how they relate to eachother

      Delete
    2. Yes he is similar, but not super similar... The leap is on-command unlike rengar, plus his ultimate is re-activatible to basically give him better ganks and higher burst damage than rengar. He also is not point based like rengar, and he can evolve his skills. His abilities also completely scale AD, which is different than rengar. He also can hit multiple targets with his void spikes AND his leap. In my opinion, that's enough for me to call him very different, but that's my opinion.

      Delete
  61. I think he's cool looking and I normally don't like monster-based champs. Reminds me of a cross between Eva Unit-01, Kabuterimon, and and a praying mantis.

  62. Why cant they make a new support tank?!

    ReplyDelete
  63. This champ is pure offence, other than his ulti that makes this champ invisble, the kit carries no slow or stun. Movement speed runes is a must have on this champ

  66. He sounds fun and his kit will most likely be broken early until they nerf him 2 weeks later.

BUT, I honestly believe he will simply be another Karma/Viktor, a champion who can never unlock his full potential due to design flaws (read Karma; can only Mantra 2 spells instead of her 3 spells, this guy can only Evolution 3 spells instead of his 4 spells, and Riot trolling as always decided that he CAN Evolution his 4th spell ONLY if he gets a PENTAKILL in that match, talk about anti-fun/rage-inducing mechanics), and a champion who can never optimize his game accurately (games are always changing, making the wrong Evolution choice based on previous circumstances can cost you a lot of your effectiveness; Read Viktor).

Tell me Im wrong all you want, but I said it first, and it IS what is going to happen after they do the usual "2 weeks post-release nerf".
