Continue reading for two posts, one concerning what the future holds for Rengar and one mentioning the Heimer rework ( spoiler alert: still no updates ).
Another look at Rengar.
Here is Statikk, one of the associate game designers, talking about what the future holds for Rengar. Since release Rengar has been a tricky cat to balance and it seems the team is finally ironing out some solid fixes rather than band-aids.
"Rengar has been a complicated situation.
Our initial approach to the champion was to chip at him until we put him in a good spot. Unfortunately, it turns out there are core mechanics on the kit (ie: % Health based heal, a huge Armor / MR buff, instant stealth) that simply don't fit the gameplay patterns we were trying to create for Rengar...thus we began to gut / remove them.
For example, his stealth duration was nerfed due to the fact that it was instant, but we have now made it non-instant. This leaves his ult feeling more lackluster than ever. The end result is a huge mistake on our part where Rengar is both weak and unsatisfying to play.
Classick and I are currently working on buffing Rengar back into a state where we feel more comfortable with his gameplay. Some of the changes include re-increasing the stealth duration back to create the prowling feel again and adjusting the W heal to be a flat heal based on champion level. We're still working out all of the specifics but we know we took a faulty approach to Rengar's balance for the past few patches."
Heimerdinger's re-"still not here"-work:
Summoners who have been eagerly anticipating a rework for Heimerdinger might get a kick out of Morello mentioning it again on the forums, saying:
"No updates that are new here;
* We're still reworking Heimer (and will be working on it more now that preseason changes are launched)
* Like all reworks, some things will get better, some will get worse, some will get laterally changes (please don't expect "all skills buffed!")
* Xypherous is working on it
* No ETA yet"

ReplyDeleteI don't think the %Health based Heal and Insta-Ult were the only reasons that Rengar was OP for some time. There's also the core mechanic of his kit, namely, that he gets advantages by spamming his abilities. Take that all together and you can understand why he got nerfed so hard over and over and his kit still is still OP, just his numbers lower. He'll need abit of reworking and changing to be balanced and I really don't know if he'll ever be.

ReplyDeleteRumble has a very similar mechanic but he has to juggle between being in the danger zone and overheating, as both have advantages and disadvantages. and there are a couple of characters with rage that get better the more they build up, perhaps Riot shuld look at those.
ReplyDeleteright now the way he works as well use mana and change his ult to give him the empowered abilities (like karma? his ult is kinda silly anyways, if you really wanted to keep him with a temporary stealth make it a short stealth as an empowered roar instead of the stupid heal he has for sustain.)

Trundle just needs animation reworks, which should be done with the visual overhaul. He's the best duelist in the game right now, will win 100% of even fights and most of them even if he's behind gold-wise.

the health % based was fine unleast rengar was tanky as hell (and i mean tanky as a shen or volibear) the insta-ult should stay if it only last 5secs, however if is not instant then should last 7sec like it did before, what ppl though was op on rengar was his Q 150% extra damage with ferocity so when this got removed it was pretty much balanced, im ok about the reduced damage on W and even if they reduce armor and mr buff, but dont make a balanced champ completly useless, i cannot even take the bonetooth necklace anymore because is not worthed

I like how Rengar and Diana both play, but I don't want to play them because as soon as I get used to one adjustment they get nerfed again.
Making Rengar was their first mistake. His kit is inherently overpowered. So either they make his stats correctly and he dominates or they nerf him into the ground and no one plays him. Rengar is the epitome of poor character design from a mechanical standpoint. You know what's sad? Kha'Zix is the fixed version of him. These are the things that riot is going to run into if they keep releasing champions at the current pace. They are going to have more inherently broken kits and more overlapping of characters that do effectively the same thing but in a different manner. They need to totally rethink their design philosophy and Rengar is the poster boy for that.

Man, insta-invi is good for Rengar. He's getting overnerfed now!
ReplyDeleteRengar's kit is will always be imbalanced considering how it works. His "Ferocity" mechanic is partly a reason. Rengar is becoming like Rammus, A strong kit no matter the nerf... until Riot decides to Nerf until he's more of an issue for your team, rather than the enemy.
