ELO Buff Giveaway ( Closed )

Posted on at 3:45 PM by Moobeat
8-2 Edit: Winners have been chosen and the contest is over! Thanks for entering!!
Elo Buff is a premium, pay per month, site centered around tracking League of Legends statistics. They track pretty much anything and everything you could think of, both personal and global - from basic stuff like  K/D/A ratios, champion popularity, and CS to advanced statistics such as counters to your least favorite champions, top players rankings, and statistical champion synergies.

Sounds nifty right? Why don't we just take a peak at an example game featuring yours truly:

As you can see, you got a whole slew of information at your disposal - an overview of the game, break down graphs about various statistics, team composition rating based on global trends,  a run down of CC effects present on both teams, and much, much more. You can view insanely detailed statistics like this for every game you play or the people you follow play.

You can see what Summoners are playing, their best champions/roles, who they play with, their win %'s and more.

While the above profile is just little ole me, you can follow and browse any of your fellow summoners or any of  the professional players you might enjoy. Want to see what The Rain Man is up to? They got that. Want to see who InvertedComposer is trolling with Singed? They got that. Want to see just how bay life Reginald really is? They definitely got that.

Oh, did I mention there are also pages detailing various champion specific statistics?

Break downs include : Most common summoners spells, items purchased, match ups, top players, and oodles more.

In all honesty, my crappy pictures totally don't even begin do Elo Buff justice. I highly recommend you mosey on over and take a tour of their website for yourself. I think you'll quickly see that Elo Buff is a polished and concise version of what we all wish Riot's ranked statistics could be.

So all this sounds awesome, but why am I sharing it with you? Well, you see, I've got three one month passes to give away!

I post a lot on reddit, twitter, and facebook, so I've decided to give one away through each of those mediums. If you'd like to a chance to win, just follow the instructions below. You can enter just one or all three if you'd like.
I'll randomly pick the one winner from each place tomorrow, August 1st, at 9 pm PST . This is the first of many giveaways this month. Stay tuned for free stuff!

Dark Valkyrie Diana updated.

Posted on at 1:49 AM by Moobeat

There will not be special skins for the 2012 Summer Olympics

Posted on at 8:30 AM by Moobeat

Vancouver Amumu, one of the eight limited skins released during last Olympic Games, the 2010 Winter Games Celebration.
Leoliolop, the Spanish community coordinator, has confirmed there WILL NOT be special Olympic themed skins to celebrate the upcoming 2012 Summer Olympic Games. The original post is on the EU-W forums and is in Spanish, but here is the surprisingly accurate Google translation:
" As you know, our tendency is to not link actual events in League of Legends. In step we performed similar actions (actual events -> aspects), for example Winter Olympic Games or World Cup. League of Legends But now an international game - played in all the world - and this forces us to think of a more international in introducing real events in the game. Summer Olympic Games, as well as other sporting events will not be present in League of Legends and that is why we will not have issues based on the summer Olympics"

As the next PBE update is looming over head, I've decided to bring you today's news and red post  recap earlier than usual. Below you can find a handful of red posts about Diana, Viktor, and Evelynn, along with a few other small news bits.

Diana, Scorn of the Moon, Revealed

Posted on at 5:15 PM by Moobeat

Diana, the Scorn of the Moon!

Gaze upon the sneak peak for our next champion - Diana, the Scorn of the Moon!
"Not all creatures of the night are the sort that lurk in the shadows. A select few leap headlong into the fray, leaving enemies begging for sunshine. Shunned by the people of the sun, Diana turned in isolation to the cold power of the moon’s glow. She hurls herself into the heat of the fight, wielding her crescent blade and unleashing lunar energy with merciless ferocity. If you’re awed by the darkness of the night, but never one to hide in the shadows, you’re sure to be drawn to this knight of the moon and her relentless pursuit of vengeance."

7-23 News: Zyra Spotlight, Red Posts, and a new sale, oh my!

Posted on at 1:30 AM by Moobeat
You know what will make your Tuesday even better? A recap of all the fantastic League of Legends news from Monday! Yesterday saw the release of the Zyra champion spotlight, Morello commenting about Summoner Icons, Meddler discussing the possibility of Cho'Gath and Trundle buffs, and the arrival of a new skin and champion sale!

Perhaps the most exciting news of the day is that Zyra's champion spotlight has been released!

I'm fairly confident we will see Zyra enabled tomorrow as Riot dislikes the confusion caused by releasing a champion spotlight well before the champion is available for play. Judging by all the comments and emails I've fielded about her release, she seems to be quite the anticipated champion!

The coveted PFE icon in action, currently the only non standard summoner icon in the game.
Morello had this to say about the future of Summoner icons, feature heavily requested right along side achievements:
Summoner icons need work and customization options - on this I agree 100%. Since PFE is the first thing you've seen that ever offers a new summoner icon, the natural conclusion is to ask what other things we an attach them to. My answer is "Legendary skins are already great and worth the RP (or you wouldn't get them), but summoner icons need to be overhauled and themes can allow you to get new ones too."

There's a quote about this I love; If Henry Ford would have only asked people what they wanted when planning his product, they would have told him "a faster horse."
Riot's official stance on both Achievements and Summoner Icons has been "would be cool to have, but we'd rather work on more important features first" for a while now, but there is always hope they'll implemented it one day. As a heavy fan of skins, I'd love additional ways to customize my LoL persona and I can't imagine how many Riot Points I would throw at the chance for an adorable Teemo icon.

Moving on to balance, It seems Cho'Gath might be getting some love soon! Meddler commented on his current state, saying  "From memory he's on live team's list of champs due to receive a bit of polish (same sort of approach taken with Malz and Sona recently for example, so more a focus on improving useability and responsiveness than straight buffs)."

Similarly, Meddler also shared his thoughts on Trundle and what can be done about his kit. He says:
"The first thing we'd like to fix on Trundle is the visibility of some of his abilities. His ultimate especially is incredibly hard to spot, resulting in your team mates missing an opportunity to burst down a vulnerable target and failing to aesthetically sell itself as cool and powerful. Similarly the stolen AD on his Q is strong but somewhat invisible much of the time. After addressing those it would definitely be a good time to look at the useability of his kit if needed, I'm not familiar enough with Trundle's play myself to comment on that front though."

Lastly, we have a new champion and skin sale! Cho'Gath ( 292 RP ), Orianna ( 487 RP ), and Lee Sin ( 487 RP ) are the champions available this round, while Boneclaw Shyvanna ( 487 RP ), Forsaken Olaf ( 260 RP ), and Pharaoh Nidalee ( 487 RP ) round out the skin side of things.

I'm sharing this fantastic place with you is because they hold frequent League of Legends competitions and they would love to see new teams duking it out for a slice of that sweet, sweet prize pool!

The next big LoL event is slated for August 17th, starting at 2:00 pm, and will be a double elimination tournament conducted on Summoner's Rift. The entry fee is $50 per team, half of which will be put directly into the prize pool for the event. The prize pool, which includes official Riot tournament support, is as follows:

Tenative Heimerdinger Rework Leaked

Posted on at 3:00 AM by Moobeat
( Warning! This is a LEAK! Everything in here is subject to change and nothing is set in stone. )

I get lots of emails every day. A few of them tell me how cool the blog is, others tell me about emerging news, and the rest of them usually tell me about the legions of typos that plague my blog posts. Sometimes though, I get a special emails. I happened to receive a special email yesterday containing some information on a rework for Heimerdinger.

The closest most players will get to Doran's Workshop.
Before I get too far into this, I'd like to explain a little known place within the League of Legends community - Doran's Workshop, or DW for short.. DW is, according to the League of Legends wiki, "a private server where tentative and experimental changes are tested and iterated on. It was originally called the Private Test Realm (PTR)". You can visit it yourself but you will not be able to delve any deeper than the landing page. To access it, you need to be either a Riot Games employee or a hand picked member of the community ( estimated to only be around 40-50 members at any given time ). I don't have access, odds are you don't have access, and the vast majority of players do not have access. We don't really know much about whats in there, save for very, VERY scarce mentions on the forums ; for example, Guinsoo mentioned DW when talking about play testing the upcoming Karma rework a few months ago.

My special email was from someone inside DW, someone with access to all of this delicious work in progress information and someone who decided to share it.
A Screen Cap of DW's testing forum which contains a lot of the QoL, Buff, and Playtest threads. I wouldn't over examine this if I were you.

While all those forum topics and QoL threads are interesting, they are not the main focus of this particular blog post. That honor is reserved for a screen cap of a specific post, a post that happens to contain information on the long awaited Heimerdinger rework!

The revised kit retains the same three core ( although obviously more fancy! ) ablities and a similar "MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER" ult. Click here for a bigger version.

We've known FeralPony and Xypherous  been chugging away at a Heimerdinger rework for months and if you search for "Heimer" in these EUW and EUNE posts, you can see small inklings about the planned changes - smarter turrets, grenade speed, turrets and his ult being the primary focus of the remake, and changes to all of his abilities, yet no completely new ones. All of these posts mesh with the above rework, but my source assures me that they are only about midway through tweaking his kit ( numbers, ratios, ranges, whatever ).  For the millionth time, I'd also utilize this time to remind you these changes are not final or concrete in anyway. As evidence of how dramatically prototype information can change, I submit the difference Shurelia's Evelynn prototype, a game designer who has since left Riot,  and the actual Evelynn rework that was recently revealed.

So what should the community do with this new, very hush hush knowledge? Nothing! You should enjoy it for what it is and hope that it survives testing long enough to make it to live. If you took the time to read the beginning of the post, you saw that I mentioned that DW was a place for tentative and experimental changes. Anything and everything could change between now and whenever Riot feels comfortable releasing details about the new kit.

So, if this information is sooo sensitive, why even bother to share it? I'm sharing it because I think it's cool. I think it's really cool. It's probably one of the most interesting remakes we've seen yet. They took Heimer, a notoriously hard to balance and certainly underplayed champion, and made him more awesome while retaining the same flavor and play style he currently has. The new ultimate alone gives him a ludicrous amount of viability and utility - sustained damage, burst damage, or an AoE CC.

On the morality of the secretive PTR being cracked open, I generally feel leaks can be fun and they can show whats coming down the pipeline, instilling hope and renewing the interest of the community. I've never been reserved about posting them before, but I did mull over releasing this one for a while. In the end I came to the decision to post it because it's what I would like to read about as a player.

I'll Trade You Some News for Some Feedback!

Posted on at 12:14 AM by Moobeat
Sorry to interrupt your normal feed of League of Legends news, but I have some news about the blog and some questions I'd like to ask you!

My wonderful new banner created by Whodis!
I'm glad to announce that you can now access the site via surrenderat20.net instead of the tacky blog spot address! It was actually much cheaper to do this than I anticipated and thanks to an anonymous donation a few weeks ago I was able to pick up the domain name for a while. You can still access the blog by visiting surrenderat20.blogspot.com ( and all those .ca, .br, .fr, extensions ) if you so chose.

The new and still very under "liked" Surender at 20 facebook page!

Second on the agenda is social media. I've had a twitter ( @moobeat ) for a long time now and, while some of you do follow my nonsense on there, I think it's time for something new! I created a Surrender at 20 facebook page a few days ago and I've been updating it whenever I update the blog. Feel free to check me out there, thumbs up some stuff, or bad mouth me on the wall.

In terms of content, you may have noticed a few changes recently. I've started structuring the posts as intermittent "important" or timely posts - reveals from Riot, new skins becoming available, Patch Previews, that Leaks, PBE updates, those sorts of things - during the day and then wrapping up each news day with a summarizing post ( with a title like 7-13 News: Blah blah blah ). This summary posts usually includes brief bits about the big news stories from the day and any interesting or informative forum posts that have cropped up. My thoughts are that it keeps the blog clean, easy to read, and easy to catch up on. I admit I sort of like this system, but I'm curious if you do too? Let me know what you think of these styles of posts, compared to typical sporadic posts during the day, in the comments below or through any of the fancy social media stuff above.

Speaking of comments, comments are great and they make me feel great when I read them. To facilitate more of this, I recently enabled anonymous commenting and your fellow readers have enjoyed posting developing news, personal anecdotes, commentary about changes, and random jumbles of letters that have no discernible value.  I'm just throwing this out there so everyone knows it's different now and can react accordingly.

Aaaannnnndddd that's about all I got right now.  Feel free to toss me any other feedback as I'd love to hear it. I'd also appreciate an upvote on reddit so I can get some additional feedback over there.

P.S I'll be doing a give away at the end of this month. Any ideas on what I should do? I did an art contest last time and that was pretty fun, yet a lot of people didn't even enter! Let me know what I should do! I think the prize is just going to be a few RP cards.

7-13 News: Patch Preview, New Skins, and Loads of Red Posts

Posted on at 7:56 PM by Moobeat
Lots of news today! Aside from the late night PBE update, we have new patch previews, two new skins in the store, a ton of discussion about champion balance, a tidbit about Dominion balancing, and a heads up on a certain snake lady receiving new particles.

First off if you missed my gigantic post about last nights PBE update, you should give it a looksie. I made fancy little images detailing the Eve, Twitch, and Xin remakes, as well as compiled pictures and videos of all the fancy new skins and doodads included within the patch.

The biggest bit of news from today was the Mid July Patch Preview. Included within the explanatory video are changes for Sona, Malzahar, and Xin. Also mentioned were a small change to the Jaximus and links to the thread detailing the Evelynn and Twitch reworks.

To catch a recap of the patch preview, head on over to my earlier post about it.

The second big bit of news, to already hit today, was the release of Infernal Alistar and Scorched Earth Xerath! These two skins are available in the in game store and can be yours for 975 Riot Points each. Check out my post earlier today for screen shots and videos of the skins in action.

There is a lot of champion disussion raging across the forums at the moment, so I'll try to handle this as neatly and quickly as possible.

Elaborating just a little about Malzahar stuff mentioned in the patch previews ( which is also available for testing on the PBE),  Xypherous mentioned an additional change for for Malz, saying  "... Voidling AI/Q usability/W useability and a little thing on his R to ignore movement commands that would break his ult in the first half second or so." He also mentioned some improvements for Call of the Void. These improvements include more consistent delay, edges dealing damage, more "forgiving" damage, and vision granted between the two bubbles.

On the the state of Darius, Morello had this to say: "I think Solcrushed wants to do some work on making the ult less forgiving and frustrating when he's done with Xin."

On the long awaited buffs for Garen, Morello commented "Not in the next patch, but still a thing we're doing. Xypherous is locked-in on doing this right now."

While I'm not sure if its intended to be taken as "we are working on it" or "I personally would support some buffs for her", Morello also said he thinks Lulu needs a little positive attention in the buff department.

Don't forget guys! Dominion is still a thing! Sites like Dominate Dominion have been pushing the envelope for high level Dominion play.
If you've been following RiotNome, you'll know that he is currently working on Dominion and Twisted Treeline. We don't typically hear about many changes influenced by Dominion imbalance, but he confirmed that the upcoming changes to Kassadin, Urgot, and Yorick were. He says "Dominion was the impetus for a lot of the upcoming Yorick, Kassadin, and Urgot changes, yes. I didn't make these changes myself though--that's the domain of live team in general. But yes, we'll be keeping Dominion balance in mind now."

While this skin is beautiful, Summoners were upset that she includes no new particles or animations!
Moving away from balance on on to the graphics department, here is something I mentioned in the PBE post and I feel needs more exposure. In a thread about the upcoming Exalted Cassiopiea skin not having new particles, ricklessabandon mentioned that Cass will be receiving new default particles ( much like Singed's new poison trail in the Jayce patch ). He says, "we agree that her current particles could use some love, so in addition to the changes unique to exalted cassi we're planning on implementing some particle changes across all of her skins (similar to what we did with singed recently). none of her particle changes are on pbe, if i'm not mistaken--only the new model is in the pbe build at this time."

The last tid bit of information isn't really anything newsy at all, just something I thought was sort of interesting. The picture above, screen capped from Guinsoo's twitter account, is him tossing out a few scrapped mechanics - abilities or concepts that didn't make the cut into a champions kit.  There are some interesting things in that tweets, things that I would have been interested to see make it to live. What do you guys think?

Mid-July Patch Preview

Posted on at 6:34 PM by Moobeat
Here is the aptly named Mid-July patch preview. I'm curious if this means that Zyra is not coming with it or that it just contains SO much that it deserved to be centerted around the content over the new champion. At any rate, check out the video below, featuring changes for Sona, Malzahar, Jax, Twitch, Evelynn, and Xin Zhao.

New Xerath and Alistar skins now available!

The PBE has been updated and is now available for testing! It's chocked full of goodies, including Zyra, new skins for Mundo, Cass, and Lee Sin, the Evelynn, Twitch, and Xin Zhao ability updates, a few "quality of life" improvements, and some new splash arts!

Zyra, Rise of the Thorns, Revealed

Posted on at 8:11 PM by Moobeat
A render of Zyra's model, poison ivy much?
Zyra's abilities and have been revealed! Her kit focuses around planting seeds and using her other abilities to transform those seeds into either deadly ranged "turrets" or short-ranged, slowing attackers.
Some in action shots of Zyra and her floral themed abilities.
Check out the reveal below:
Are you ready to meet one of the fiercest and deadliest champions ever to step foot out of the Valoran wilds? Meet Zyra, Rise of the Thorns. This floral femme fatale packs a lot of petals and punch, planting seeds directly on the battlefield and springing them to life into deadly plant allies.

As a plant mage, Zyra’s kit revolves around her ability to sow and transform seeds through Rampant Growth. Zyra can store up seeds using an ammo system, dropping these seemingly-harmless buds on the ground to grant limited vision while they remain active. Seeds aren’t too threatening on their own, and enemies can even move over a seed to stomp it out of existence at only the cost of revealing their position on the map for a few seconds. Zyra’s full fury blooms, however, when you use her other abilities to interact with her seeds.

On its own, Deadly Bloom causes damage to enemies caught in the area of effect after a slight delay. Seeds caught in the area of effect, however, will spring to life as a ravenous Thorn Spitter with a ranged attack. Likewise, Zyra’s Grasping Roots ability deploys a line attack that roots enemies caught in its path for a moderate duration. Seeds affected by Grasping Roots transform into Vine Lashers armed with a shorter-range attack that slows enemies. Zyra can even drop a seed in the path of an ability she’s just cast to surprise her enemies with an instant plant-to-the-face.

To seal the deal, Zyra can invoke her ultimate ability, Stranglethorns, to afflict an area with an infestation of thorny vines that deal significant damage as they spread out. After a brief delay, the vines retract again, knocking any enemies still within the area of effect into the air. Any of Zyra’s plants touched by the Stranglethorns become enraged, gaining a hefty bit of attack speed and growing to an imposing size. Zyra can execute some intense combos with her abilities, playing off seed placement to lock enemy champions into a fight with the deadly wilds themselves.

Abilities:
  • Queen of Thorns (Passive): Upon dying, Zyra transforms into a vengeful plant that fires one last shot before expiring.
  • Deadly Bloom: Zyra grows a bud at target location. After a brief delay it explodes, launching damaging thorns at all nearby enemies. If cast on a seed, Deadly Bloom grows a Thorn Spitter plant, which fires at enemies from afar.
  • Rampant Growth: Zyra plants a seed, granting vision of an area for up to 30 seconds. Other spells cast on seeds will turn them into plants who fight for Zyra.
  • Grasping Roots: Zyra sends forth vines through the ground to ensnare her target, dealing damage and rooting enemies they come across. If cast on a seed, Grasping Roots grows a Vine Lasher, whose short range attacks reduce enemy Movement Speed.
  • Stranglethorns (Ultimate): Zyra summons a twisted thicket at her target location, dealing damage to enemies as it expands and knocking them airborne as it contracts. Plants in the area are enraged, increasing their Attack Speed.

Lore:

Longing to take control of her fate, the ancient, dying plant Zyra transferred her consciousness into a human body for a second chance at life. Centuries ago, she and her kind dominated the Plague Lands, using thorns and vines to consume any animal that set foot in their territory. As the years passed, the animal population steadily died off. Food became increasingly scarce, and Zyra could only stand by helplessly as the last of her kin withered away. She thought she would perish alone, until the appearance of an unwary sorceress presented her with an opportunity for salvation.

It was the first time in years Zyra had sensed a creature wander so close. Hunger drew her to the sorceress, but some other, deeper instinct compelled her. She enveloped the woman in thorns with ease, but as she savored this final meal, foreign memories invaded her thoughts. She saw great jungles of metal and stone where humans and animals thrived. Potent magic surged through her vines, and she devised an elegant but risky plan to survive. Using the woman’s memories, Zyra poured her newfound magic into the creation of a human-shaped vessel. She didn’t know what sort of world awaited her, but she had nothing left to lose. When Zyra opened her eyes, she was overwhelmed by the raw power ready at her fingertips. It wasn’t until she noticed the shriveled remains of the plant she once was that she realized how vulnerable she had become. If this body died, there would be no network of vines to retreat through, no roots to regrow her...but she felt truly alive. She beheld the world for the first time as animals did, and a dark smile crept across her lips. She was reborn, and there was so much now within her grasp.

Well, Zyra has been revealed much earlier than expected AND the PBE is being taken down for a rather large maintenance. It looks like we may get to try her, and all Stealth Remake updates, soon!

P.S: For those of you who emailed me earlier about the potential leak of Zyra's abilities, Sorry if I didn't email you all back. I got about 30 emails with a link to that video/blog. I'll remind you that if some where can't source where they pull their information from or present it in a very unprofessional manner ( i.e swarmed with aggressive advertising ) you should be wary of it! Plus a lot of that information didn't sync up with what Morello had already let us know.

Twitch's Ability Remake

Twitch and some of his fancy new animations!

As we received yesterday with Evelynn, we have now have Twitch's complete, new kit revealed! Check out his Poison-happy, with commentary by Classick, below:
In an upcoming patch we’ll be revisiting one of our original classic champions: Twitch, the Plague Rat. Twitch’s Ambush ability will be seeing some changes to shift him toward a more aggressive role on the battlefield. Since this ability allowed Twitch to remain invisible for significant periods of time, enemy players were forced to adopt an extremely cautious and defensive playstyle in response. Since we want League of Legends to be a fun, fast-paced experience, we decided to update Twitch with a new version of Ambush.

Even beyond its duration, we saw some major issues with the Ambush ability, primarily surrounding the nature of the Attack Speed bonus that it provided. While Attack Speed helps quickly stack up charges of Deadly Venom, this bonus ramped up over the total duration Twitch remained invisible. This forced players to strike a balance between selecting the ideal time to strike and attempting to lurk for as long as possible in order to reach the maximum bonus. This was especially problematic for Plague Rat enthusiasts, since it forced Twitch to forego farming gold in order to reach his maximum Attack Speed bonus.

To shift emphasis towards a more action-oriented style of play, we retooled Ambush to promote aggressive repositioning over stalking. The first step in accomplishing this was to change the ability so that it always applies the maximum Attack Speed bonus, solidifying the emphasis on selecting the opportune moment of attack. We also drastically shortened the duration to give the ability a more tactical context, and gave Ambush a Movement Speed boost to help Twitch quickly outflank his opponent.

Another issue Twitch faced was an over-reliance on the enormous damage potential of his ultimate ability. More often than not, Twitch’s success or failure on the battlefield depended on his ability to output massive amounts of damage over the course of Spray and Pray rather than on Deadly Venom and Expunge. Since most of his interesting gameplay revolved around poison combos, we wanted to augment this aspect of his kit both to make him more interesting to play and to make him less one dimensional.

For starters, we noticed most Twitch players using Debilitating Poison to begin every engagement rather than waiting to build up stacks of Deadly Venom. For this reason, we decided to replace this ability with one that was better suited to initiating combat. This new ability, Venom Cask, not only allows Twitch to initiate by slowing a group of enemies at range, but also gives him a head start on his combo by adding stacks of Deadly Venom to those caught within the area of effect. To top things off, while Expunge still adds bonus damage for each stack of Deadly Venom on the target, it no longer consumes those stacks when cast, allowing your poisons to continue to tick away. Expunge will also now receive a damage bonus based on your total Attack Damage, preserving its function as a heavy hitting nuke even into the late game.

The final step in the process was repurposing Spray and Pray to better support this new emphasis on poison gameplay. To do this, we scaled back the massive, team-wide damage potential by making each missile deal reduced damage after passing through each target. To compensate for this, we increased its missile speed to make attacks more difficult to dodge and removed the ammunition requirement, allowing Twitch to spray poisoned arrows to his heart’s content for the full duration of his ultimate. This allows tanks to take the brunt of the initial assault for their team through good positioning, but still allows Twitch to douse the more vulnerable enemies at the back of the formation with stacks of Deadly Venom. These more powerful poison-delivery options help Twitch maintain a constant threat level, allowing him to take down high value targets without leaning so heavily on Spray and Pray.

Abilities
  • Deadly Venom (Passive): Twitch’s basic attacks infect the target, dealing true damage over time.
  • Ambush: Twitch becomes invisible for a short duration and gains Movement Speed. At the end of this effect, Twitch gains Attack Speed for a short duration.
  • Venom Cask: Twitch hurls a cask of venom that explodes on contact, slowing targets in the area and applying Deadly Venom.
  • Expunge: All nearby enemies secrete Twitch's Deadly Venom from their bodies, dealing damage for each stack.
  • Spray and Pray: Twitch closes his eyes and rapidly fires his crossbow, quickly spraying powerful poisoned bolts ahead of him.

7-11 News: AFK Detection on PBE and Evelynn's New Kit

Posted on at 8:01 PM by Moobeat
Aside from those two new skins I posted about earlier, all the League of Legends news I have for your today is about Evelynn's stealth remake kit and about a new feature being tested out on the PBE.

Shots of Evelynn's new abilities in action!
As mentioned yesterday, Evelynn's kit has been retooled as part of the Stealth Remake. Riot has now posted her entire kit, with additional commentary by Statikk, and you can find it below!
In an upcoming patch we’ll be revisiting two of the first champions to grace the Fields of Justice: Twitch, the Plague Rat, and Evelynn, the Widowmaker. These champions haven’t been as viable as we’d like them to be due to problematic long-term stealth mechanics. For Evelynn, her core ability Shadow Walk allowed her to remain invisible for long periods of time, ultimately forcing players to stay on the defensive and favor cautious play. Since we want the action to remain a fun and fluid experience throughout the match, we decided to update these champions with some new stealth abilities.

Because Evelynn has always been the consummate assassin in League of Legends, we really wanted to preserve that bloodthirsty feeling of stalking an enemy champion. Instead of traditional invisibility, however, we decided to retool Shadow Walk into a new form of persistent stealth. Whenever Evelynn is out of combat, this passive version of Shadow Walk will kick in after a short period of time, reducing the range at which enemy champions can see her. Additionally, while in this state Evelynn will be invisible to all Sight Wards and minions, though turrets and Vision Wards will still be able to spot her as normal.

This new version of Shadow Walk will allow Evelynn to close in on an enemy, positioning herself closer to melee range while she waits for the opportune moment to attack. To help her initiate in an appropriately predatory manner, her new Dark Frenzy ability can give her the Movement Speed boost she needs to quickly close the distance on an unsuspecting target. Additionally, we’ve modified Ravage so that it not only functions as a nuke but also provides an Attack Speed bonus to help her quickly take down her victim. Should she score a kill or assist, the cooldown on Dark Frenzy is reset, allowing her to either redouble the attack or escape and vanish as quickly as she came.

Evelynn also faced challenges participating in team fights. To give her some additional staying power when entering the fray, Evelynn can employ her new ultimate ability Agony’s Embrace. This new ultimate targets an area, dealing damage and slowing the enemies it hits. In addition to its offensive effects, Agony’s Embrace also grants Evelynn a significant damage shield for each enemy champion caught within the target area.

Combined with the strategic advantage of Shadow Walk, this shield can give the Widowmaker the tactical advantage she needs to quickly reach and tear down a high value target in a team fight. For even more added punch in these group situations, we’ve also increased the range on Hate Spike and updated it to strike multiple enemy targets in a line each time it’s cast. This added team fight utility combines with Evelynn’s new persistent stealth to keep her alive and dangerous even in the more advanced stages of the game when group action is more prevalent.

Abilities
  • Shadow Walk (Passive): While out of combat, Evelynn enters stealth causing her to be detectable only by nearby champions or true sight. Additionally, Evelynn rapidly regenerates Mana while stealthed.
  • Hate Spike: Evelynn fires a line of spikes through a nearby adversary, dealing magic damage to all enemies caught in their path.
  • Dark Frenzy:
    • Passive: Evelynn’s spell hits grant her a stacking Movement Speed buff.
    • Active: Evelynn breaks free from any slows affecting her and gains a massive Movement Speed boost for a short duration.
    • Champion kills and assists refresh Dark Frenzy's cooldown.
  • Ravage: Evelynn slashes her target twice, dealing magic damage with each strike and gaining a massive Attack Speed boost for a short duration thereafter.
  • Agony’s Embrace: Evelynn impales all enemies in a target area, dealing magic damage based on their maximum health and slowing them. She then gains a shield based on how many enemy champions she hit.
Hopefully we'll receive details about Twitch, the other stealthy to get a remake, soon and be able to try them both out on the PBE!

Ponts, a QA Anaylst at Riot, has posted a message on the Public Beta Enviroment forums about a new AFK Detection feature that is currently being tested in the PBE. Here is what he had to say:

Hey guys,

In a few minutes we're going to turn on a new AFK detection feature we've been working on and we could use your help testing it out. The feature should help keep afk players out of champion select and give players the ability to decline a game that has been found for them. Please give the new feature a try and let us know if you like it or not and if you find any bugs with it.

Thanks guys!!

Here are some of the rules for the new system:

- When the queue pops, each player should receive a dialog box asking them to confirm or decline their newly found game.
- Players who click ACCEPT are shown real-time status markers for all other players in their game.
- When all 10 players click ACCEPT they are moved into champ select.
- If any player FAILS TO ACCEPT the game is canceled and one of the following should occur:
- Solo players who accepted are returned to the queue
- Solo players who declined or failed to make a choice are removed from the queue
- Arranged teams of any size whose members all accepted will be returned to the queue
- Arranged teams of any size who had one or more members decline will be returned to the arranged team lobby.
- Players should receive appropriate messaging if their game fails to start
- Players should NOT receive queue dodge or leaver penalties associated with declining a game or being AFK prior to entering champ select.
So basically it's shifted to something more practical. Now instead of having to wait an entire Champion Select Process to conclude before an AFK player is kicked from the queue, they will be removed swiftly  before the process even starts. Several other games ( Dota 2, RoI, etc ) utilize this style of match making so I'm more than happy that Riot is jumping on board with it.
