Here is another discussion I see a lot in game and amongst less experienced summoners. The question is whether or not champion generated shields, such as Mordekaiser's passive or Janna's Eye of the Storm, are benefited by the mitigation from armor and magic resist or will they essentially take true damage. FeralPony confirms that they do benefit from these resistances.
"It is treated effectively as additional health, so any resistances or mitigation on the shield's owner will work with shields exactly the same as they do normally with health."
