Our fellow summoner Metronomicanoid isn't normally the one to gripe, but he just can't let go of some things. He recently made a disgruntled post about the promotion Riot held back in late January. The promotion, aimed at enticing summoners of old back to the game, consisted of a promotional codes sent by email to redeem both the champion Pantheon and Persus Pantheon skin. These items, valued at around $15, caused an immediate uproar on the forums. Active summoners became furious that people who quit the game received free content, while they received nothing for their loyalty. Riot was in quite the pickle and promised to look into the situation to try to find an outcome that made everyone happy. We received a somber red post today about the matter, clarifying that there will not be a similar promotion again. Whether it is good or bad that community was up in arms about this promotion, I don't know, but who wouldn't want more people to flock back to their beloved game? What do you think?
"We didn't forget, I commented on the thread you were referencing to close the matter. We shut down the promotion and aren't planning on doing anything like that again. We can't go back in time to undo what happened, but we did listen to your feedback and make sure that the promotions that we do in the future don't upset you like this did."- Tamat, Lead Community Manager, via the official forums.
I was quite frustrated they gave it out as well. I did have pantheon, but no skins for him! Hopefully they'll find a better solution instead of no more promotions.
ReplyDeleteI see no point in it. If inactive had previously not taken a skin, why they should do after receiving free skins?
ReplyDeleteWell I'll bet they won't pull that one off again
ReplyDeleteAgain, I love the artwork.
ReplyDeleteToo much whining in the LoL community. The focus shouldn't be on fancy skins or shit like that. People need to get a better skill in this game. There are too many ridiculously bad player on level 30.
ReplyDeletethey have their reasons...
ReplyDeleteWhy should they give stuff for free to people already paying? Doesn't sound like good business to me.
ReplyDeleteI know that reaction too well. "we had to work for this, so why should they get it for free?" Sad, but I agree. It should be equal
ReplyDeletei actually had a friend that got back into it after receiving this..... i wish i had this, pantheon is one of my favorite champ in the game.
ReplyDeleteSeems a little unfair.
ReplyDeletemeh its just a skin
ReplyDeletethanks for the heads up
ReplyDeleteLoyalty SHOULD be rewarded, really....so I can understand why these people would be upset.
ReplyDeleteTBH, that is total BS by Riot. Us active users make THEM money by buying RP, but they send the valued items for free to the quitters. Nice
ReplyDeleteGiving stuff out to un-loyal customers can suck, but just because somebody gets something free doesn't mean thatyou deserve it!
ReplyDeletePeople should be rewarded for their loyalty to a company.
ReplyDeleteI understand its a load of crap for the loyal fans, but damn is it a good idea for the business side of things.
ReplyDeletenice artwork. thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteI also think Loyalty should be rewarded, something we don't see everyday. Follow
ReplyDeleteOh well I already bought that skin. Its alright I prefer his caped skins.
ReplyDeletetake left behind smurf from beta, grab code, get on main... victory
ReplyDeleteI think all the long time members should get rewarded while all the others should receive a small reward so everyone will be happy.
ReplyDeleteI tried to download LOL, didn't work. I cried.
ReplyDeleteI dont play league of legends, but i will admit the artwork is pretty good
ReplyDeleteGiving free stuff to the quitters is so they come back, i understand this buit yeah what about the loyal players they should get something also, why? Because they already gave freebies to quitters it has to be equal.
ReplyDeletei like promotions
ReplyDeleteGreat sneaky way to get players to play again :D
ReplyDeletePromotions are a great way to keep the users hooked. Whatever works I guess.
ReplyDeleteHmm very interesting, I don't know if I like it though
ReplyDeleteI can dig it.
