Why no UI customizations?

This is something I've always wondered about. We see people promoting custom champion and launcher skins on the forums but never anything for the UI. Coming from a host of MMO's myself, I naturally wondered if anyone created add-ons for this genre of game. RiotCaptainLx graciously quenced my curiosity over on the EU boards.

His thread consists of a barrage of questions to which he gives a lot of well thought out answers. It proves to be a very good read  and gives a lot of insight into what is becoming one of my new favorite REDS.

"...UI wise there is a good reason as it jeopardizes the competitiveness of the game. WOW for instance is not competitive and so they can do that (we would love to, but have to think of fairness first). A better UI (or lesser UI) might give hardcore players a big advantage. Something we have to be vary of."

    That reasoning is dumb, if UI modifications where implemented everyone could use them, not just the hardcore players.

    If it gave them that much of an advantage everyone would have the same customisations or you'd see UI guides everywhere on the net like all those "reach the wow gold cap" guides everywhere.
    Maybe it is best to keep them out then.

    I love custom UIs... but sometimes it gets in the way of the game and makes it too easy (wow).

    The competitors in the Annual WoW Arena Tournament might disagree about whether or not it can be competitive.
