Introducing Honor.

Lyte made a delightful announcement in General Discussion about an upcoming system called Honor, a long awaited system that allows players to commend Summoners who have good attitudes and promote healthy game play. Check out his post about this "anti-report" feature coming:
"We here at Riot have been hard at work trying to improve player behavior in League of Legends. Historically, we’ve reacted to toxic players through systems like LeaverBuster and the Tribunal that are great at identifying and punishing the worst of worst. However, players will often challenge Team Player Behavior and say, “Dr. Lyte, how are you a doctor?? Don’t know you know that positive reinforcement can also improve player behavior?” We agree with you! We know that we have a great community, but we haven’t done a great job providing tools to empower this community to proactively be even more awesome.

Today, we’d like to introduce Honor, our positive feedback initiative. We’re well versed in research done on concepts in psychology such as positive reinforcement and how it can improve behaviors, and we’ve also found that some of the most meaningful, memorable moments in League come from the positive interactions players have with each other. Everyone’s had one of these days: You are struggling in a game and find yourself in a situation where a teammate could have easily trolled or flamed you, but instead goes out of his way to be a helpful, compassionate team-player. He says, “Hey, don’t worry about the first blood.” You may not friend this player or ever play with him again, but this small, kind gesture made a difference and is something you remembered.

Through Honor you’ll be able to give something lasting back to those players who went out of their way to make your game experience better. Keep an eye out for Honor with the next PBE update, and expect to hear more about it in an upcoming patch!"

  3. Sounds rad, I wonder what the purpose will be for.

  4. Hmm, as long as it's not possible to abuse it. Like in Maple Story, you could only grant fame to a person once a day, I dunno if there was a limit on the number of people, but it kept it from people boosting fame levels instantly.

  5. sooo... what do you gain if you have a high honor score? just respect (which i feel is sufficient)? or is there some sort of reward, like IP?

    1. Maybe an icon to show that you're a team player. This would make more people want to play with you. Whereas, people with little to no level of honor would be avoided.

    2. IMO i think if there wasn't going to be a reward system in this it would be pretty damn pointless. just cuz people can see that you have lots of points wont mean that you are better at the game. or will it even mean anything at all.

      Delete
    3. I think it should be implemented in the match making system. People with higher honor and are matched together etc.

    4. you get absolutely nothing other than a color tag next to your name, just like tribunal is switching from no ip to a leaderboard. all red posts just mention the possibility of a real reward with a winky face ;) it's just a way of rewarding without really any reward. it's really terrible. honor system itself is just an incentive to lie to your 0/15 teammate and tell him he's doing good; thus making the community seem "better"

  6. This is actually an amazing concept! I love it! I kinda wish it would influence que tho....

  7. IP rewards were recently removed from the Tribunal in lieu of evidence that players who participated for the sake of weeding out the worst of the worst were more accurate than players who did it solely for IP, so I'm gonna go ahead and guess that awarding and receiving honor is going to result in exactly zero IP gained for all parties. Being awesome just for the sake of being awesome should be sufficient, says I.

    1. that was a mistake though. it was hardly any ip to begin with. it goes back to the concept of judges. I'm sure all the judges in my city want do it because they want a better city, but if you don't pay them, they're not going to work for free. for the very few IP points that were given, that wasn't a reward, it was payment. I did it to see a better community myself, but now it really is way too pointless. I'd rather be an anonymous helper than on a leaderboard anyway.

  8. Finaly, just a tribunal wasnt the best idea. Just everybody can report anyone for just a bad game cuz they where sleepy and so on. Now u can get positive reports for ur good games

  9. If premades antireport himselfs every game?

    1. I was just thinking the same thing. But i feel that there will (should) be a mechanism that makes so that you can only Honor one Summoner once. But either way, i'm 100% sure that it will be well thought out and abuse-proof.

  10. probaly you can´t report the same person twice with the same acount

  11. I would personally use it, but i dont think it would be a common use, most of the people doesnt even care to look at match statistics, just hit play again and go on queue

  12. Would be a good ideia if Riot took this "Honor" thing, and made so people with bad "manners", who abuse others or w/e, would like, get a "bad honor queue", in which they'd have to play with other people who abused others, or has been disrespectful to others. So, they'd have to team up, and learn to be nice, or to lose every single game because of useless rage. Endless Rage shall begin, but in some time, they'll just realize that they need the whole team AS a team, and not as just a bunch of people who they can flame and do shit at. That being said, I like this new way of things, as people may just spam it, it'd be nice if you could only get judged once per account, or at least once a week or something.. Either way :3

    1. I don't think this would work out too well. People learn at different rates. Riot is trying to encourage a positive community, not housetrain a puppy.

    2. This already exists, its called elo.

      Delete
    3. ^ Oh wow, really? Since when elo separates players' behaviour?

    4. I've got a good idea, if you are reported you can lose honour (let riot sort out the finer details), and if your honour falls below a certain threshold, you account is subject to an overall review by riot. This way the true assholes can be removed by force of bans.

The finer details would have to be ironed out, but it seems like a decent concept.

  14. Posts from RiotLyte on reddit:

Let's all give RiotLobster (Developer), RiotBahamut (Developer), sAYpOPgUYs (Developer), VonBurgerMeister (UX Designer), Scezumin (Developer), binaryvision (Developer), RiotWorldPeace (QA), ryedan (Visual Designer) and Robbypoo (Developer) some Riot fistbumps for bringing this feature into League!
Also, don't forget Team Player Behavior's producers statuskwoh and RiotSeb!

    >How visible will honor be? Something along the lines of being in the "hover over" and Custom Game screens, profiles, etc?

We'll talk more about where the Honor feature might show up in a future segment closer to launch.

    1. I bet you will only be able to give honor to a certain friend only once to avoid this. Riot are not as dumb as you think they are.

      Delete
    2. One of the reasons it has taken so long to create a system like this was that they wanted to ensure it would catch this kind of abuse.

And in that topic, Lyte already said it would.

      Delete
    3. lol basically according to questions asked to lyte, the super system they have for "abusing the system" will permaban you if you even mention honor in gameplay. seriously if you even mention the talk of trading honor or yell HONOR ME after a penta it's bannable. It's really odd. I don't get what the big deal is with abuse, it's not like we can gain anything by having more or less honor.

  17. maybe riot will give those honored player a unique champ with 4 different hug abilities.

  21. As if anyone would bother doing this. The most positive response from strangers you can get after a solo que play is that they don't report you.

  28. hi. can anyone give me an account on the NA server i'd like to suggest some rewards that would be so cool in this honor system.. but i cant get to play and reach lvl 5 coz i'm not from there..and by that i cant post anything on their forums. maybe an unused accnt without just above lvl 5 would do...

  29. In Smite you get points for not going afk, and it increases the amount of currency that you will get from each game. If it was something like that, then it would be awesome, but it would also be awesome for match making... I would like to avoid ques with complete douche bags.

  30. I like this up coming feature.

Ironically the comments on this post are the opposite of "honor" rofl...

    ReplyDelete
  31. If riot queued people with similar honor ratings, I would be so happy. Nice team players get to work together while the jerks try to out troll each other. I would never play an online game other than LoL again.

    ReplyDelete
  32. But if u think about it, if u got jerk status and somehow changed ur way, ur already stuck with jerks. How would u get back up in honor?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why do people like this so much? It's so pointless. It won't affect how you que; it won't increase your IP or RP, it won't unlock anything (as of now.) literally the ONLY thing it will do is cause you to lie more to bad players. If they're feeding: "haha it's okay man, we all go 0/30/2 sometimes as supports". They give up first blood (very easily)? "you're doing great!" It just makes everyone very fake for no reason at all.
