Riot has finally tossed up an announcement regarding the recommencement of the S2 World play offs, which were delayed due to technical problems. They will start up tomorrow, Wednesday, October 10th, at 5:00 PM PST.

"We’ve rescheduled the remainder of the World Playoff matches for this coming Wednesday, October 10th, starting at 5:00 PM Pacific Time. The games will be streaming live in free HD on both Twitch and Own3D, with the same production quality and broadcast features (player cams, replays, interviews, etc.) that you saw up until we ran into technical difficulties. A full list of foreign language streams is still to be determined.
Here’s the full schedule, starting at 5:00 PM Pacific Time:
- Match 1 – Team WE vs. Counter Logic Gaming EU quarterfinal match *
- Match 2 – M5.BenQ vs. Taipei Assassins semifinal match
- Match 3 – Azubu Frost vs. the winner of the Match 1
We’ll be broadcasting from a backstage area of the Galen Center – the same venue where we’re holding the World Finals. The main stage is still being set up for Saturday’s festivities, so we’re decking the back out with all the accoutrements necessary to provide a level playing field for the teams and a high-quality viewing experience for all of you watching from home. Unfortunately, due to the time and space constraints, we won’t be able to host a live audience.
* The first two games of the series between Team WE and Counter Logic Gaming Europe were completed on Saturday, and the match is currently holding at a game apiece. The winner of this quarterfinal round will be decided by the first game of the evening."
As you may have noticed, this schedule only accounts for one match between World Elite and CLG.eu despite the previous announcement they would restart a new best of three match. Redbeard commented on this in a different thread, saying:
"I previously announced we’d be conducting a new best of 3 between Team WE and CLG.eu. However, given new feedback and considerations, as well as conversations with both teams, we’ve reversed that decision. WE and CLG will be concluding the one remaining game of their best of 3 match on Wednesday.
The winner of this quarterfinal will have to face intense competition in the Semifinal match that same day, and given the late start time necessitated by event preparations, a new best of three could result in some very late games. We’re concerned about fatigue and a poor experience for all teams and players involved. Additionally, the two games on the scoreboard in the existing best of 3 completed without incident, so we believe they should stand.
Both teams are informed of the new decision and are practicing accordingly. We know some of you were looking forward to a new best of 3, but I hope you’ll understand why Riot has chosen to resume the existing match."

DeleteI know they couldn't exactly cater towards anyone else but themselves but it would have been nice to see some thought given to EU watchers considering even the commentators noticed a sudden drop in numbers from people in the EU just going to bed at 1AM.

DeleteYeah I agree they should play the games that are hosted in America at like 4am america time just to suit us better. I know Riot is shit when it comes down to treating Europe with the same care as America and whatnot but complaining about the times they are hosting the matches is just stupid.
DeleteAt the end of the day you don't need to watch them live as it makes no real difference other than the psychological affect it has on you feeling like you are part of something.
It wouldn't make sense for them to prioritise the match times for us. Admittedly they could possibly have done it an hour or so earlier but it still makes no real difference.

ReplyDeleteIt would have been fine if Riot started the matches at the same times as before, but if it's like this, it's way to late, or better said, way too soon, lolz, since it will be after midnight.
FAIL Riot.
Nobody wanted them to stand up at 3 am. The times they had before were fine, but now they're starting way later, so most might not even try to watch it, which had been the case before.
