"Nami channels the primal energies of the ocean, harnessing its mystical restorative properties and commanding the raw power of the tides themselves. Though many doubted her, Nami had the bravery and determination to take on a dangerous quest when no one else would. Now her people believe she is the Tidecaller, a chosen one destined to complete a quest essential to the survival of her entire race.
The Tidecaller's sacred duty is to acquire a moonstone, a powerful object found only in the towering reaches of the surface world. Her people, the Marai, rely on the moonstone's light to ward off the terrors of the depths. However, the stone's power lasts only one hundred years. Before its light fades, the Tidecaller must journey into the Great Deep, retrieve an abyssal pearl, and carry it to the surface. There, on the night of the winter solstice of the hundredth year, the Tidecaller makes a ceremonial exchange with a landwalker bearing a moonstone. By trading the pearl for the moonstone, the Tidecaller ensures the survival of the Marai for another century.
However, in Nami's time, as the hundred years drew to a close, no Tidecaller had been found. Without a chosen one to complete the quest, her people would face disaster, but the Marai waited in faith that the Tidecaller would appear. Nami refused to sit idle, insisting that without a Tidecaller to save them, someone had to act. Bravely, she decided to begin the quest herself and ventured alone into the dangerous depths. None expected her to survive, but after six days of battles with untold horrors, Nami returned with the pearl in hand. The Marai hailed her as the new Tidecaller. All that remained was for Nami to journey to the surface and complete the exchange.
When Nami arrived at the surface, however, she found only an empty shore. She waited for days in a mystic cove, unsure of what to do. In all the legends of the Tidecallers, the bearer of the moonstone had never failed to arrive. Nami faced a choice. She knew the surface world only through tale and rumor, but the survival of the Marai depended upon her. Summoning the tide to bear her ashore, Nami began her search for the moonstone and became the first of her kind to explore the world above the ocean. She left her home behind, and vowed not to return until she had completed the Tidecaller's quest.

ReplyDeleteSurprised that it exists now! I WAS deadset on buying a bundle for her if that happened, but now I'm not so sure since it doesn't look ver... koi-like to me. I was expecting orangey-white. XD The classic design has a slightly more regal look to it, which I like a tiny bit more. Not to mention her pseudo-hair looks a lot more awkward. But her staff is pretty cool.

ReplyDeleteVisually, her hair stays "up" like Janna's hair does. She has a staff like Janna does. She has the water element but even that looks similar to Janna's winds.
And skill wise:
1. her passive gives allies movement speed when she hits them with her spells. Janna's passive gives movement speed;
2. her other skills have a knock-up, slow, empowering ally.
But yes, maybe i'm exaggerating. It's the purpose of a support to have a lot of cc.

ReplyDeleteSoo, how exactly she joined the League? One second she's the first Marai to explore the ground and in the other one she was recruited? And what does it have to do with the Moonstone? Did they promise her one? Which side is she? That would be a reason, but nothing about it in her lore...

ReplyDeleteShe has to return home to save her people, but she instead decides to join the League for absolutely no reason? It's like they came up with this pretty interesting story, but forgot that they have to integrate it with the existing lore.
She looks like a lot of fun! And with the S3 items coming, sure to be a blast. But I've insta-bought the last .. like .. four new champs and not liked some of them. I think I might way till she goes free week before picking her up. Since I'm not one of the privileged few who have been testing her out on PBE. (:

idk personaly i think that finding a moonstone would be a lot easier if you let the whole world know you are looking for one. And the league has to have some press coverage, i mean whole countries fates are decided by the matches. And Nami could be all like: "Hey everyone, we just won, and i was wandering if anyone had a moonstone, it would mean a lot for me if someone would give it to me, *wink*"

ReplyDeleteI was sooo excited about getting the nami bundle coz I main support and I like her kit, but personally, I just don't like the Koi skin very much. I would've preferred her mixed with another type of fish, like a shark mermaid, or maybe even like an octopus mermaid! Still, I like that Riot is making skins other than robot/fire/ice ones.

ReplyDeleteSo... why Nami dont go to Mt. Moon, Mt. Coronet, or Giant Chasm? If there are Clefairy then she can find Moonstone too. ALSO! Is there a chance that Nami is evolution of Nemo and she can evolve into Mina? (Nemo 17lv -> Nami *moonstone* -> Mina) AND MORE! She is skilled enough to use Surf. Does that mean she defeat 4 gyms already? Does that mean her 5th gym is Summoner's Rift? Well, that can be hard.

ReplyDeleteI dunno why she joined the league, but some guy above us said something about Diana's "W" and some guy replying he maybe onto something. As far as the Rakkor's lore states, Mt. Targon is the highest mountain in Valoran. The members of Solari are against anything dealing with the moon including the Lunari (er... those that worshiped the moon) and maybe the reason why the Nami didn't find the person at the shore is cause Diana didn't even know about them.

Dude... Taric and Sona only have one stun (but sona's is an AoE ult). Soraka only has one form of CC and it's a silence, Nunu, only has two slows (Both have no hard CC.) They're regarded as the most common supports and perform the role very well, and they don't have tons of CC like Leona or Blitz.

ReplyDelete- Nami's hair is only up a bit whit this koi skin. Her normal does not have her hair standing on end.
ReplyDelete- Nami is a support, like Janna. Most supports have forms of CC, Heals and Buffs for allies.
- Nami's water effects are so vivid and pretty. Clearly water, blue and reflective.. Janna uses wind, tornados, gusts.. all very grey.

ReplyDeleteAlso, I wonder if Diana is supposed to be the Moonstone bearer. Perhaps the moon-worshiping village the Solaris wiped out were the stewards of the moonstones to Nami's people. And now that there aren't any (until Diana), there was nobody to show up for Nami's quest.
And Diana, being new to the whole moon thing, isn't aware that she was supposed to do the whole moonstone exchange thing.
