Continue reading for a sample from the discussion, some user ideas that have merited a response, and a nice list clearing up the terminology associated with crowd control effects.
Here is Xelnath's initial forum post on the subject:
"Hello Summoners,Xelnath also mentioned Riot's initiative to clean up the wording associated with various crowd control effects, proving a succinct list of each major crowd control effect and what it means:
I'm Xelnath, game systems designer for Riot Games. In a nutshell, I focus on improving systems with a broad impact across all of league of legends, rather than champion or item specific issues. My team improved skill-shot rendering from fog-of-war, added recall and ward icons to the minimap and allowed you to silence players who spam emotes.
Now we're looking further into HUD and UI improvements to better indicate that you are stunned, silenced, feared, rooted, etc.
I'd love to hear your opinions and ideas to improve this feature.
Questions:
- What information would you like about control impairing effects in League?
- What information do you feel is the most important to convey?
- The least?
- How would you like this information conveyed?
- Where would you like it to be conveyed?"
" Now that we've decided to clean up terminology, here's what we're considering moving towards:While nothing concrete has came out of the discussion yet, there has been some interesting points brought up. Xelnath has already responded to summoners that have suggested things like making your screen flash when stunned, sounds for each major type of cc,different text colors ( similar to the purple for magic, red for phyiscal, and white for true damage ) for each major kind of CC, using icons and text to differentiate between the longest type of cc,and more.
Rooted - cannot move.
Stunned - cannot act.
Silenced - cannot use abilities.
Disarmed - cannot use auto-attacks.
Suppressed - cannot act + cannot use summoner skills.
Slow - movement speed reductions.
Fear - cannot act, movement uncontrollable.
Taunts - cannot act, forced to attack the taunter.
Charm - cannot act, movement towards the charmer.
Blind - auto attacks always miss.
That said, the Disables we would likely show via UI are:
Hard CC: Suppression, Stun, Fear, Taunt, Charm
Can't Cast: Silence
Can't Move: Rooted
Can't Attack: Disarmed
Meaning that "soft" CC, such as movement and attack speed slows, are excluded."

first! :D
ReplyDeleteDisarmed? Preview of things to come?
ReplyDeleteoutrageous
ReplyDeleteCould be but Amumu's ult has always had this effect but there has never been a good term for it.
ReplyDeleteHmm, it reminds me of blind or sth....
ReplyDeleteDisarmed is blind? ish?
ReplyDeleteWhat about Hecarim ultimate? Terrify, ennemies terrified move away from you
ReplyDeleteIsn't it just fear? If only feared enemies actually moved away from you.
ReplyDeleteXelnath refers to it as a "flee"
ReplyDeletePlease just stop.
ReplyDeleteThis fail role-playing has just gone to rubbish.
It's just a regular fear man. Just worded fancily.
ReplyDeleteWhat about polymorph? Would that go under disarmed or...?
ReplyDeleteBy that definition Charm would also be Fear and not something different..."Flee" seems to be just the opposite of Charm. Both cannot act, like fear, except Charm makes you move foward, Flee makes you move backwards....Fear just makes you move randomly.
ReplyDeleteI imagine since polymorph changes your entire character, it wouldn't be necessary to implement another indicator.
ReplyDeleteLee really loves screwing over the terminology. You blind him so he can't auto attack even though he's blind, and now you disarm him so he can't auto attack even though he doesn't have any weapons.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tool.
Why knock up and knock back are not included here ?
ReplyDeletei thought u couldnt blind lee, like with teemos bind
ReplyDeleteSion has new axe wohoo :D
ReplyDeleteKnocking up Malzahar, Syndra, Anivia, Janna and Sona makes no sense as well.
ReplyDeleteUsed to. :P
ReplyDeleteMaybe they share reason with polymorph ;)
ReplyDeleteBy that definition charm is more like a taunt. All forced actions are similiar.
ReplyDeleteWe already have a taric. he more outrageous than you.
ReplyDeletePolymorph makes you disarmed?
ReplyDeleteIt does for 4 of them.
ReplyDeletestill do not like, they should put on CC messages time of duration, like a quick cooldown in red, is better to see and to determinate when o can move, or cast, etc again
ReplyDeletei see what you did there
ReplyDeleteI actually saw that coming : if you look the different animations for Vi, with lolking for example, you'll see a "stunned" animation. I've looked every other recent champions, there isn't such an animation, I knew something nice was coming sooner or later. I just hope they don't forget to update the old ones, especially Renekton, he's looking too ferocious and healthy while cc'd.
ReplyDeleteyeah I'd love to see demonblade tryndamere's arm falling off or something like that xD
ReplyDeleteMhm "Now we're looking further into HUD and UI improvements to better indicate that you are stunned, silenced, feared, rooted, etc. " okey so you can't see you are rooted or stunned ? If you can't see these stuff then why you play LoL ?. Its not a bad idea but cmon pros see these stuff. You guys gonna make the league to play for you instead you to play.
ReplyDeleteThey forgot Terrify from Hecarims ulti!
ReplyDeleteCould there be an item which disables summoner spells for a few seconds, because I am tired of ganking and them just flashing away.
ReplyDelete>.>
ReplyDeleteit's more like slowed, disarmed and silenced. XD
ReplyDeletehttp://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_md7f6tjEQX1re04pso1_500.jpg
ReplyDeleteHah, exactly! :D
ReplyDeleteTerrify is a Fear.
ReplyDeleteI think they could just make new icons for each of them and put in the head of the affected champion.
ReplyDeleteI know when I'm stunned when there is that spinning effect over my head (IF that is stun), and I know when I'm bleeding and poisoned.
You can still attack when blinded, although it deals no damage.
ReplyDeleteI think that all the champs since Elise have one, at least Elise, (new) TF and Vi have it.
ReplyDeleteSilence - Can't use abilities AND summoner spells* (at least Garen's)
ReplyDeleteFear - that ghost thingy above head Slow - ice or that "swamp" under ur champ. Silence - that comic bubble crossed above your head (if i remember correctly). All the CC have some visuals but they are hard to notice in a teamfight anyway
ReplyDeleteIt's purple XD
ReplyDeleteThe difference would be in procs of, say, Shiv. If it isn't proc'ed when blinded, than the difference between the two cc's are minimum.
ReplyDeleteCan't see knockbacks and airbornes mentioned.
ReplyDeleteLulu.
ReplyDeleteYou should color code champions based on the effect they're experiencing. Stunned? Make them entirely red hued. Silenced? Blue. Slowed? Add a yellow hue to them. Etc etc.
ReplyDeleteAnivia got some great breasts. Amirite?
ReplyDeleteImagine if i have a real weapon?
ReplyDeletei'd like to see a Lee Sin disarmed
ReplyDeletei absorb boot's power to move/swim faster!
ReplyDeleteI think the difference actually does matter.
ReplyDeleteFor instance, if you see a Nasus bring up his siphoning strike and you blind him, in the case that he attacks, the spell goes on cooldown when it hits you(no damage).
If Nasus brings up his siphoning strike and you disarm him, he cannot attack and still has a chance to hit you with siphoning strike after the cc(if the cc lasts shorter than the siphoning strike's timeframe).
that applies to every silence
ReplyDeleteDid ANYONE notice the picture is of taebooM? moobeat backwards?
ReplyDeleteyup
ReplyDeleteNope. Fear is fear, terrify is terrify, charm is charm and so on.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't it say it then? It says just abilities.
ReplyDeleteAt least I don't remember of anything for Snare/Rooted, you simply stops.
ReplyDeleteAmumu won't be having that. His ult is getting nerfed to where they are basically Snared. They can use AA's I believe.
ReplyDeleteRooted
ReplyDeleteI want to see them fix his self cc first when using his w :/
ReplyDeleteWoW just added this and it was pretty good if you're stunned, add an indicator on a certain part of the screen (which can be moved or replaced with settings) such as | Stunned | |Rooted| with effects, etc.
ReplyDeleteI did.
ReplyDeleteNice, Flash while stunned.
ReplyDeleteNo, there is too much SFX already, personally I would like to see them reduced and replaced with animations.
ReplyDeleteYou've rephrased my post and gave your example, and you made it look like you're in disagreement with me (or I'm just missing on something). So, basically, we're both right, as we're talking about the same thing.
ReplyDeletelulu's transform is?
ReplyDeleteso, what could be the difference between blinded and disarmed, they seem to aproach the same issue with different names really.. so i find it kind of pointless...
ReplyDeleteMy example showed how blinds are better for the user. Your example showed how disarms are better for the user.
ReplyDeleteMe:
Blinds: Put opponents' AA spells on cooldown
Disarms: Delay opponents' AA spells
You:
Blinds: Still get hit by on-hits
Disarms: Prevents on-hits
Disarmed is essentially a rework of "Blind"
ReplyDeletewell blinded means you can still AA but u'll do 0 dmg, however disarmed means u cannot even AA so if u press on a champ while disarmed he will not attack instead just sit there
ReplyDeleteIrelia E disarms
ReplyDeletejust pointing out that while blinded you still have on hit effects, such as irelia's W true damage, or wit's end
ReplyDeleteFor those dumb CC suggestions they better include an option in the game to disable them because that won't be easy on my eyes ...
ReplyDeleteIt's not a regular fear, with fear you move randomly but with Hecarim's ult you move away from Hecarim.
ReplyDeleteThe most disturbing thing to me seems that Taric can be charmed by Ahri.
ReplyDeletedisarmed: blinded
ReplyDeleteque onda vos aca hahaha
ReplyDeleteLulu polymorph is the only skill that have it , Amumu used to but no more
ReplyDeleteit only tastes that way.
ReplyDeleteOne of the differences is that if I'm playing Nidalee in my cougar form, if a Teemo blinds me, I can still auto-attack him. While my auto-attack does no damage, auto-attack modifiers such as my Q (Takedown) will apply, thereby still doing magic. Whereas if I was disarmed, I would not be able to attack at all, thereby preventing me from using my Q on him.
ReplyDeleteSmall technicality but it always seems to get those Teemo players when they blind me! :D
I think a voidling just came out. O_o
ReplyDeleteIt's stupid, Lee Sin has no weapon, but can still be disarmed. He's also blind, but can still be blinded :/
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Kayle
ReplyDeleteFearing Nocturne is also bs
ReplyDeleteI want Renekton's W to work on towers :(
ReplyDeleteSorry my angie.
ReplyDeleteYou're removing his arms. dis"arm" =_= not his weapons right?
ReplyDeleteAlways thought it was somewhat a bit different, it does feel so
ReplyDeleteRooted - Hmm... Damn
ReplyDeleteStunned - Oh shit
Silenced - I can still move
Disarmed - "*ADC* Wtf..." "*Caster* l0l"
Suppressed - I'm f*cked
Slow - I can still move!
Fear - Some Op Shit
Taunts - Come at me bro
Charm - *Attractive voice* Come at me
Blind - But I'm Lee Sin
