Ask Riot: Increasing the Clubs Cap
New Ask Riot on what’s up with Clubs, what’s new with the new client, and how we chose Pentakill’s newest member."This week it’s Pentakill Kayle (again!), Clubs, and the League Client Update.
How does Riot feel about the new client now that it’s been out for a few months?
What matters more to us is how *you* feel about the new client : ) We’ve been tracking satisfaction with the new client ever since alpha. Since we replaced the AIR client, satisfaction with the new client has been slowly trending upward as we address performance issues and add quality-of-life features like item sets and the updated champ select. However, we know we’re not all the way there yet, especially when it comes to general reliability and performance.
We’re continuing to work on these issues patch over patch and will do so until they are no longer issues. The new client has also made it easier for us to add new functionality — which is something AIR hindered for a long time. So requested features like the skins collection are in progress, and we hope to deliver a bunch of other cool ideas going forward : )
NEW001Lead Producer
Why did Riot choose Kayle as the newest member of Pentakill?
The new album includes tracks with a female singer, so when the guys working on the Pentakill album approached us to do a new skin to go out with the album release we did some exploratory concepts with a handful of female champions that could fit the thematic.
The Kayle concept that came out of that was our favorite and also the Pentakill team’s favorite. Her wings being more metallic, and the idea for the hilt of the sword being a microphone so that she could stab the sword into the ground and scream into it made her metal AF and put her above the other champions we were looking at as possibilities.
Plus, she really needed a skin with a bad-ass haircut.

Is there any update on the Club system? When will the cap be raised? Are there any plans to expand on this feature?
The last time we talked about Clubs was like a year ago, so thanks for keeping me honest. We’re still committed to raising the club cap to 100, and though it’s definitely taken too long, we’re doing it before the end of the year.
RIOT MARTLETProduct Manager, Metagame SystemsThanks for reading this week’s Ask Riot. Have a question?
Head over to Ask Riot and sign into your League account. Check out the Pro Tips, then ask away.
We promise to read every question, but we can’t guarantee they’ll all get answers. Some questions may already be answered elsewhere, and some won’t be right for Ask Riot. This isn’t the best place to announce new features, for example, and we might skip conversations on issues we’ve talked about in depth before (though we can clarify individual points).
We are listening, though, so keep asking. We’ll make sure your questions are heard by the Rioters working on the stuff you’re curious about."
PAX West kicks off
Pax West has begun! Here is a look at who you can meet at the event:"PAX West kicks off this Friday, and as mentioned in our announcement we’re capping off Day 1 with a one-night PAX afterparty co-hosted by some of your favorite League creators!
PAX has been an incredible home and community for League over the eight years since we first revealed the game there, and we’re thrilled to be back. At the convention itself, look for our Cosplay Lounge as well as a Neo PAX Sivir skin code in your swag bag, but after-hours make sure to head to the Showbox SoDo for all the games, music, and epic cosplay that you can handle!
Several of the League community’s best and brightest are co-hosting the party - expect to see them in attendance, and even if you’re not in town for PAX you can follow your favorite co-host as they cover the party online. You can also check out the League Twitch channel for an inside look at the party.

[EU] Lag Report Beta
A new Lag Report Beta has launched in EU! You can use this tool to determine your latency and rate your connection relative to other players.
Here's more information from Riot Sigmund:
Hi everyone,
Have you ever wondered how your connection to League of Legends stacks up against other players in your area? How well your ISP does compared to your neighbor’s?
We’ve recently started beta testing a brand-new kind of...min-maxing tool for your internet that attempts to answer those questions, and we’d like you to join in. It’s called Lag Report, and you’re invited to help us test, improve, and give feedback before it’s available more broadly.
What is it? Lag Report is a website that provides you with visibility into the quality of different internet connections to League of Legends based on actual games played. It also includes a bunch of tips on how to get the most out of your connection and info on what’s at the root of lag (and how to fix it). It’s not a real-time connection test or speed test - it uses the last 30 days of games played to give you a big-picture view of things.
How does it work? We’re aggregating data from millions League games to let you compare your connection to League against your ISP and other ISPs in your area. It’s completely different sort of tech application with a lot of potential we’re excited about, but we can’t build it without you guys.
How do I access it? If you're on EUW click here and if you're on EUNE click here to check out information on ISPs in your area. Log in using your League of Legends account to get your Personal Connection Score based on past games you’ve played.
How can I help? If you have questions about the Lag Report, please drop them in the comments below. If you have feedback on the accuracy of information that’s returned through the Lag Report, please use the Provide Location and ISP Feedback button on the website.
Anything I should keep in mind? If you live in a remote or less-populated area, it’s possible your location will be incorrect. Don’t worry - by using Lag Report, you’re helping us improve location accuracy for where you live, and every data point helps improve the tool.
We want Lag Report to empower you to get the most out of your internet; something new and transparent that lets you see the best ways people are connecting to League in your area. With the community’s help, we can make it a reality.
Thanks!"
Quick Hits
- Reav3 gave hints at some of the content in his next upcoming Champion Roadmap post:
"Quote:
Do you think you'll announce any new gameplay updates as well?
I will be talking a little about the next new champion, a bit more detail on Swain as well as who we end up choosing for the next VGU after Swain.
As for small gameplay updates like Rek'Sai/Xin Zhao, it will depend on what we have going on by the time the blog comes out. Live Gameplay has a couple smaller projects in development, if it looks like they have a solid direction for one of them then I will include that as well.
