/dev: The Latest on Clash
Here's Riot IAmWalrus with a /dev blog on the return of Clash - "Clash returns for a global beta this preseason!""Hi everyone, we’re back with an update on Clash. Earlier this year, we shared a list of everything we’d need to accomplish to launch Clash globally. We’ve since run a total of 22 tournaments over six weekends in 11 regions. Today we’re pleased to announce that the latest version of Clash has proven to be stable throughout these tests. We ran into some small issues, but we were able to correct them. And we beat the final boss by holding a successful Clash weekend in EU (thanks for being so patient, EU friends!).
Because of this, we feel confident moving forward to our next milestone, which is a global beta across all regions simultaneously. This global beta will be our biggest yet, and it’ll take place across two weekends: December 7–8 and December 14–15.
There will be new, exclusive rewards that can only be earned during this two-weekend Clash tournament. We’ll also be using the ticketing system, meaning players will need to unlock Basic Tickets through missions, the Clash website, or with Blue Essence in order to compete.
This global beta will also be an opportunity for players to try out the new Rise of the Elements changes on Summoner’s Rift in a more competitive setting before the new Ranked season begins.
So Where Are We At Now?
Closing Thoughts
- Redesign: Done.
- More Internal Testing: Done.
- Regional Testing: Regional tests are finished! We caught and squashed some bugs and feel good moving forward after a successful test in EU.
- Global Beta (preseason): This is where we’re at now. We’ll be running a global beta during preseason, which will consist of two weekends of Clash tournaments running simultaneously in all Riot regions. We’ll have new rewards, and players will have a chance to compete on the new Summoner’s Rift changes.
- Launch (2020): Once the global beta is complete, we’ll have a clearer idea about how Clash works in the real-world. We’re going to take a little time after the beta to fix any issues that crop up, but if things run generally smoothly, we’re prepared to launch Clash a few months into 2020.
We’re really excited to be so close to finally making Clash a reality. Your patience, participation, and excitement around Clash has really kept us going, and we look forward to seeing you in the global beta this December!"

10/28/2019 URF is now live!
We’re bringing back URF as a one-time experiment to celebrate League’s 10-year anniversary. From now until November 8, jump into cannons, wreak havoc, and rapid fire it up on Summoner's Rift. As promised in the /dev article on Nexus, we've implemented some balance changes, similar to the way we did them in ARAM earlier this year, to keep the games snappier and less "solved."
Champions
Due to our extended testing window on PBE, we’ve been able to utilize a similar balancing approach to ARAM for URF, dialing in the approach specifically for the champions that really pop off. We’ve tried to make sure we adjusted champions in ways that do not hamper their classic URF patterns, while also not invalidating other champions as reasonable options. The changes below are the adjustments made from how each champ normally is on Summoner's Rift.

Systems
"To keep URF fast, we want objectives that are powerful and threaten the end of games. That being said, older iterations of URF would end too quickly once these objectives were taken.
Additionally, turret plates are great for rewarding even small amounts of lane aggression in normal SR, but the tunings for that game mode often under-rewarded the risk it takes to hit turrets in URF, especially due to the speed at which enemies arrive back in lane. We’ve reduced the risk to get early plates, and we’ve dramatically increased the reward to make these a more interesting strategic option. Changes below are the system's values in this iteration of URF.
- ELDER DRAGON SPAWN Elder Dragon will spawn at 9 minutes
- ELDER DRAGON BUFF DURATION 120 seconds (base) & 180 seconds (empowered)
- TURRET PLATE HEALTH 500-1500 based on the plate
- TURRET PLATE GOLD 300 gold
Runes
We wanted to take a minimal change approach to runes, and tried to bring down only a few runes that really distorted the options last time URF was live. Similar to the system changes, the adjustments below are what they are now in this URF iteration.
10/23/2019 Waterwalking Bugfix
- TRANSCENDENCE 15% CDR at level 10 & 0.5 adaptive AP/0.3 adaptive AD for every 1% CDR overcap
- GATHERING STORM Gains Adaptive Force every 6 minutes
Waterwalking
- BUGFIX Champions will now properly activate Waterwalking at every part of the river, not just at the entrances"
